Swine influenza (Swine flu) refers to influenza cases that are caused by Orthomyxoviruses endemic to populations of pigs. The viruses are referred to as Swine influenza viruses (SIV). SIV strains isolated to date have been classified either as Influenzavirus C or one of the various subtypes of the genus Influenzavirus A.

H1N1 update as on 8th June 2009 – 25,288 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A/H1N1 infection from 73 countries. – The 60 year old mother of the positive case [reported at Delhi on 7.6.2009] complained of mild symptoms and also tested positive. She got the infection from her son. They are on oseltamivir. All their contacts have been put on chemoprophylaxis.
