European Hormone Day 2024: A United Call to Improve Hormone Health

Empower & Inspire: Spread Health & Wellness

Today, on April 24, 2024, we celebrate the third annual European Hormone Day. This day shines a light on how important hormones are for managing chronic diseases like diabetes, thyroid issues, cancer, obesity, and various rare diseases.

The European Society of Endocrinology (ESE), the European Hormone and Metabolism Foundation, and other important health organizations from Europe and beyond are coming together. They aim to show us simple ways to take better care of our hormone health.

Building on the momentum of the past two years, these groups have urged changes in health policy across Europe. They focus on major health issues such as obesity, cancer, rare hormonal diseases, and harmful chemicals that disrupt our hormonal balance. In 2022, they presented a significant declaration in Milan called ‘The Milano 2022 Declaration’, which outlined the critical role of hormones in health. Last year, they offered ’10 Recommendations for Good Hormone Health’, helping the public understand and improve their hormonal health.

Jérôme Bertherat, the president of ESE, emphasized the importance of keeping hormone health in discussions, especially with the upcoming European Parliament elections. He stressed that it’s crucial for new and returning policymakers to support laws and funding for research that help reduce the negative impacts of harmful chemicals on our hormones.

In connection with European Hormone Day, a conference was held by the Belgian EU Presidency on the ‘Future of Chemical Policies’. This gathering brought together experts and representatives from various sectors to talk about improving laws surrounding chemicals, including those that affect our hormones.

Martin Reincke, Chair of the ESE Foundation, mentioned that European Hormone Day is a great chance for various organizations interested in hormone health to work together. He encouraged everyone to use the hashtag #BecauseHormonesMatter to spread awareness and share knowledge on this crucial health issue.

Key Message to Take Away:
European Hormone Day reminds us of the powerful impact hormones have on our health. By coming together, learning, and advocating for better health policies, we can all contribute to better hormone health. Let’s use today to learn more and take active steps towards improving our own hormone health.
